Xuân Sơn National Park, located in Tân Sơn district, Phú Thọ province, is characterized by its limestone mountain ecosystem—a typical representation of Northern Vietnam’s tropical and subtropical forests. This region hosts a diverse array of rare and precious fauna and flora, making it a valuable hub for scientific research, genetic preservation, and environmental education. Often referred to as the “green lung,” Xuân Sơn National Park plays a crucial role in climate regulation, absorbing carbon and industrial emissions. It also serves as a watershed area for the headwaters of the Bứa River, supplying water for production and daily life in the surrounding communities.

Recognizing its outstanding values, Xuân Sơn forest has been designated as a protected forest area according to Decision 194/CT dated August 9, 1986, by the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, covering an area of 5,487 hectares. On November 28, 1992, the Xuân Sơn Nature Reserve was established. Subsequently, on April 17, 2002, it was upgraded to Xuân Sơn National Park under Decision 49/QĐ-TTg by the Prime Minister, encompassing a total area of 15,048 hectares, consisting of:

  • Strict protection zone: 9,099 hectares
  • Ecological restoration zone: 5,737 hectares
  • Administrative service zone: 212 hectares

Xuân Sơn National Park, with its unique limestone mountain ecosystem, is home to numerous rare and precious plant and animal species, making it a focal point for scientific research and biodiversity conservation. A survey identified 1,259 higher plants, belonging to 699 genera of 185 families across six plant divisions. These rare animal and plant genetic resources possess high economic and conservation value.

With its diverse topography and wild natural features (forests, lakes, mountains, valleys, etc.), Xuân Sơn offers a captivating destination for those who appreciate wooded areas, hills, and mountains. The park boasts over 30 caves, some of which display enchanting and surreal beauty, such as Lạng Cave, Lun Cave, Na Cave, and Thổ Thần Cave. Xuân Sơn enjoys a cool climate and fresh air, particularly advantageous for eco-tourism and resort development during the summer. Nestled at the foothills of the grand natural landscape of Tam Đảo – Ba Vì – Xuân Sơn, and deeply rooted in the spiritual axis of historical legends like Quốc mẫu Lăng Thị Tiêu, Sơn Tinh – Thủy Tinh, Vua Hùng, Gà chín cựa, Xuân Sơn stands as a majestic and strategically positioned destination for sustainable conservation and development.
